Rakomelo is produced exclusively from tsipouro – tsikoudia, which is sweetened with honey. The aroma of honey is enriched with aromatic herbs and fruits such as cinnamon, cloves, anise etc. The resulting mixture remains for a short time before bottling, in order to marry its aromatic and taste characteristics.
Depending on the sugar content, you can find it as an alcoholic drink and/or liqueur.
Its minimum alcoholic strength is 20% vol.
Its color is clear, with a shade from deep golden yellow to dark brown.
It is produced in Crete and other Aegean islands as well as in the Greek mainland.
It is mainly consumed during the winter, although it is nice and cold as a digestif after a meal on the beach.
