It is a top quality honey, which contains the glycoside Arbutin, which cleans the blood and regulates the level of cholesterol.
Virgin honey is extremely nutritious with many healing properties, which has now made it more popular. Also, the presence of the substance Tyranose in it makes it extremely beneficial. Indeed, it has been experimentally proven to increase cell life. Then, the enzyme Diastase or Amylase has the ability to break down the starch.
Virgin honey is rich in trace elements and vitamins. While combined with the natural antibiotic substances it contains, it is ideal for stimulating the body and treating mild infections and bronchitis.
This very special bee product has the fewest calories than any other honey. This is due to the low content of glucose and fructose. At the same time, it does not contain any sucrose.
Virgin honey belongs to the category of flower honeys. We produce it from the nectar and pollen that we find abundantly on the plant, which in Greece occurs in two of the four varieties that exist in the Mediterranean: Arbutus unedo L. and Arbutus andrachne L.
Koumaromelo, which we find mainly in the Peloponnese, Epirus and Central Macedonia, has a dark cream to dark brown color with shades that touch the gray-black palette. Its aroma is moderate to strong. However, the interest in the so-called bitter honey is growing more and more thanks to the greater awareness of its beneficial properties and special characteristics.
TASTE: It has a bitter to bittersweet taste. The international name of “bitter honey” is due to its bitter taste.
