Malotira (mountain tea) is a protected species and grows only in the rocky areas of the Cretan Mountains (Haniotikes Madares & Psiloritis) at an altitude of 800 – 2000 meters. As a warm decoction it is an ideal medicine for sore throat.

This wonderful Cretan herb from the flowers of which bees collect a unique honey product! In Venetian-occupied Crete it was considered a panacea for colds and respiratory ailments.

Malotira or otherwise known as Cretan mountain tea was traditionally a morning drink for the inhabitants of western Crete. It also gives flavor to many local culinary creations while its use in pharmacology is confirmed by ancient Greece. Its medicinal effect also prevailed in its name, since the word malotira in Italian means removal/removal of evil, disease – “Male” (evil) and “tira” (from tirare = to pull out, to pull).

Today, the malotira is essentially considered an endangered species as it no longer covers the areas of the Cretan Mountains as in the past. For this reason it has become a protected species and as expected genuine Malotira honey is extremely rare.

Malotira honey contains all the beneficial properties of herbal honeys, rich in vitamins and trace elements, but its most important feature in terms of benefit to the body is its healing properties that stand out from any other honey. Also, the presence of valuable flavonoid substances with a significant pharmacodynamic effect in stimulating cardiac function and reducing pressure has been confirmed in the plant.

It is considered a panacea for colds and respiratory diseases.
