Milk thistle, rare honey with unique properties!

The thistle is a plant that exceeds two meters in height, with a body, trunk and leaves covered by a multitude of thorns. The growth of thistle begins with the first autumn rains, grows with the winter rains and is harvested in July and August but until the beginning of autumn. Its scientific name is Onopordum acanthium, but it is also known by other names such as: gomaragathos, koufagathos, agavatos, etc.

The flowers of the milk thistle are purple in color and have a large amount of purple-blue pollen with a very high nutritional value.

Milk thistle is considered the best herb, since it contains silymarin and silybin two antioxidants vital for the protection of the liver, helps regenerate liver cells, helps fight stress, improves memory, reduces high cholesterol (increases levels of the beneficial HDL cholesterol reducing the risk of atherosclerosis), pressure (the silymarin it contains helps lower blood pressure), sugar (improves blood sugar control in people with diabetes), also helps lower triglycerides and has strong anti-inflammatory properties .

Milk thistle appears to have neuroprotective properties with research showing that it is beneficial in treating multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. It is also a promising species in kidney cell regeneration and is proving useful even in dialysis patients.

It releases serotonin into the blood and the body converts it into melatonin. Melatonin is the hormone that helps us fall asleep quickly, so it can contribute to a deep and beautiful sleep.

Milk thistle honey can eliminate stomach problems because it is an excellent antiseptic and also works as a natural antidote to poisoning from fungi of the genus Amanita (mushrooms).

Of course, this is honey that is produced and collected, away from areas with pesticide sprays.
